Veloway 1 Stage E

Stage E of the Veloway 1 (V1) upgrade delivered 1.6 km of dedicated cycleway between Birdwood Road and Gaza Road, including three bridge crossings and new local road connections, improving safety and connectivity for cyclists.

The V1 is a critical active transport corridor connecting residential, employment and commercial precincts across Brisbane’s southern suburbs alongside the Pacific Motorway. As the largest package within the overall upgrade, Stage E involved complex bridge construction, utility relocations, and works adjacent to and over live traffic environments. Environmental management, including the protection of waterways and delivery of extensive landscaping, was a key project priority, as well as proactive community engagement and maintaining network performance. Innovative engineering solutions, including balanced cantilever bridge construction, Super-T girders and elastomeric bearings, enabled the safe and efficient delivery of the works while minimising disruption. The completed infrastructure provides a continuous, safe and resilient cycleway, for one of the State’s fastest growing regions.
