Operators play a vital role in the safe and efficient delivery of our construction projects. They use plant and equipment to carry out earthworks, construction and support activities in line with plans, specifications and safe work practices. With a strong focus on safety, care and quality, these roles work collaboratively with supervisors and crew members to maintain productivity, manage changing site conditions and contribute to the successful delivery of reliable, high‑quality infrastructure.
As part of integrated site teams, our labourers assist with a variety of hands‑on tasks that support daily operations, from preparing work areas and handling materials to maintaining safe and organised work areas. By working closely with supervisors, operators and trades, labourers contribute to steady productivity, safe work outcomes and the delivery of quality community assets that connect our communities.
A key site leadership role, our Leading Hands support supervisors and guide crews to deliver construction works on our projects. Working hands‑on alongside their teams, Leading Hands help plan and coordinate daily activities, allocate tasks, manage resources and monitor productivity, quality and safety on site. With responsibility for maintaining safe work practices, completing required documentation and reporting issues as they arise, our Leading Hands provide an important link between crew members and site supervision.
Leading and coordinating all on‑site construction activities to ensure works are delivered safely, to specification, on time and within budget, are our Site Supervisors. Working closely with our Project Managers, they oversee crews, subcontractors, plant and resources, while maintaining accountability for HSEQ and industrial relations requirements. Through strong leadership and planning, Site Supervisors play a critical role in driving performance on site and delivering successful project outcomes.
Superintendents provide senior on‑site leadership across projects, overseeing the delivery of works at a broader, whole‑of‑site level. Working in close partnership with Project Managers and Site Supervisors, they coordinate resources, manage multiple crews and subcontractors, and ensure construction activities align with program, quality, safety and commercial requirements. With accountability for workforce planning, industrial relations compliance and maintaining McIlwain’s construction standards, Superintendents focus on optimising site performance, resolving complex issues and supporting their people to deliver consistent, high‑quality outcomes.
