Sustainability is embedded in the way we plan, construct and operate. Supported by strong governance at every stage, we take into consideration the whole of project lifecycle, balancing short- and long-term considerations to ensure infrastructure performs well beyond construction.
McIlwain actively works to reduce or eliminate adverse environmental impacts, by conserving biodiversity, protecting ecosystems and minimising resource use on our sites and within our offices. Where possible, we go beyond mitigation and implement restorative actions that leave a positive legacy by reducing energy and water consumption, lowering carbon emissions, applying the waste hierarchy, and supporting the reuse and recycling of materials.
We recognise that infrastructure plays a vital role in community wellbeing and regional resilience. Our social responsibilities extend beyond delivery to supporting participation, providing training and employment opportunities, and partnering with social enterprises and Indigenous businesses. Through targeted development and investment in local capability, we help leave a skills legacy that lasts long after construction is complete, strengthening our communities.
Sustainability considerations are also embedded across our procurement and supply chain practices, where we assess a range of factors when selecting materials, suppliers and subcontractors. Acting with honesty, transparency and accountability, we work collaboratively with our partners to promote responsible sourcing, ethical conduct and continuous improvement. Through ongoing performance monitoring and the adoption of innovation and emerging technologies, we’re becoming more efficient, minimising impacts and ensuring we deliver best for project outcomes by supporting resilient, future focused communities and assets.
