Murphy Road and Ellison Road Intersection Upgrade

The Murphy and Ellison Road Intersection Upgrade transformed a congested suburban intersection into a safer, more efficient transport hub, improving traffic flow, connectivity and accessibility for all road users.

Located in Geebung, the upgrade converted a high-traffic roundabout into a fully signalised intersection to address increasing traffic demand and improve network performance. Delivered as part of Brisbane City Council’s Urban Congestion Reduction Program, the works responded to existing safety concerns, limited active transport connections and ageing underground infrastructure. The project required extensive stakeholder coordination, including engagement with utility providers, property owners and adjacent businesses to facilitate land resumptions, service relocations and works around critical live assets, some of which had not been inspected for more than 90 years. The completed upgrade provides improved capacity, enhanced pedestrian and cyclist access, and greater reliability for the surrounding transport network.
