Lamington National Park Road NDRRA

McIlwain restored and stabilised multiple landslip sites along Lamington National Park Road following ex-Tropical Cyclone Debbie, delivering critical infrastructure repairs that improved network resilience and maintained a vital connection for residents, tourists and local businesses.

Following widespread geotechnical failures, the Department of Transport and Main Roads engaged McIlwain to deliver remediation works across a highly constrained and environmentally sensitive corridor. The project initially comprised 32 civil works sites and more than 50 rock scaling, clearing and revegetation locations, later expanding to include a further 28 sites through design and construct variations. Working collaboratively with GHD and PCA, McIlwain developed and implemented innovative stabilisation solutions, including micropiled A-Frame structures, hollow bar soil nails and Geobrugg mesh systems, tailored to the unique conditions of each site. Despite the significant increase in scope, the project was completed on time and under budget, earning the 2019 CCF Earth Award for Excellence in Civil Construction ($10M–$30M).
