Moggill Road Cycle Bridge

The Moggill Road Cycle Bridge delivered a dedicated active transport connection across one of Brisbane’s busiest road corridors, significantly improving safety and connectivity for more than 800 cyclists using the route each day.

Awarded by the Department of Transport and Main Roads following a competitive EOI process, this $6.5 million project involved the construction of a 218-metre, nine-span bridge within the highly constrained Western Freeway Interchange and Witton Creek catchment. Delivered in a live traffic environment, the works were delivered while maintaining traffic flow and cyclist access. Innovative construction methodologies, including continuous 17-metre column pours and offsite girder preparation, improved construction efficiency and reduced project risk. Installation of the bridge’s largest 105-tonne girders required carefully planned freeway closures and dual-crane lifting operations. Extensive environmental controls, including water quality monitoring and fauna and flora management, were implemented to protect the surrounding sensitive environment. The project’s success was recognised in 2016 with a Category Three Civil Contractors Federation Award.
