Deodar Drive Stormwater Upgrades

The Deodar Drive Stormwater Upgrade delivered critical flood mitigation and infrastructure improvements in Burleigh Waters, increasing stormwater capacity, supporting future growth, and preparing the corridor for the Gold Coast Light Rail.

Awarded by the City of Gold Coast in May 2022, this $22.7 million design-and-construct project was delivered in two stages. Stage 1 involved upgrading the primary drainage chamber beneath the Lower Gold Coast Highway to facilitate future Gold Coast Light Rail integration, while Stage 2 delivered major drainage infrastructure improvements and pavement reconstruction along Deodar Drive. Undertaken within a constrained residential and commercial environment, the works required deep excavations of up to five metres, extensive stakeholder coordination and carefully staged construction to maintain traffic flow, pedestrian access and access to surrounding properties. The project involved close interface management with the Gold Coast Light Rail team, local residents and businesses, as well as works adjacent to live Telstra services, requiring meticulous planning and service protection measures. The completed project enhanced network resilience through increased drainage capacity while also delivering upgraded road infrastructure, kerb and channel, and improved amenity for residents, businesses and road users.
