This $7.4M contract has delivered several safety improvements for motorist along the D’Aguilar Highway between Station Road and Gamgee Road. The project included; a new intersection and dedicated turning lanes, lighting solutions, drainage improvements, construction of a 1.2km eastbound overtaking lane and resealing surfaces between Neurum Road and Canado Street.
Pavement designs for this contract required the use of plant mixed foam bitumen which is a new technology adopted by DTMR. This new technique delivers a fast, cost-effective and long-term rehabilitation solution that reduces road maintenance.
McIlwain collaborated with DTMR where changes were made to the specifications to create a sustainable solution. Learning from this project will be used to develop further the foam bitumen specification which contractors will see in future rehabilitation contracts.
The construction team handed the project over to DTMR two weeks ahead of schedule and works were completed on budget.
