Tully Timber Bridge Replacement

Located in New Beith in South East Queensland, McIlwain replaced the ageing Tully Road timber bridge over Oxley Creek with a new two-lane reinforced concrete box culvert structure, improving safety, capacity and flood resilience for the growing local community.

Awarded by Logan City Council in May 2023, the project addressed the structural and operational limitations of the existing crossing, which was subject to a 22-tonne load restriction and provided less than one-year flood immunity. The new structure removes these constraints, improving access for commercial, industrial and emergency vehicles while enhancing network reliability during severe weather events. The design also incorporates a permanent fish passage to support the movement of native aquatic species through Oxley Creek. Delivered within a constrained three-month construction program, the works required careful staging and stakeholder coordination to minimise disruption for local residents and businesses while maintaining access throughout construction.
