TMR awarded SMA Infrastructure JV the Burleigh to Palm Beach contract in November 2020. The Burleigh to Palm Beach project forms part of the 10km M1 Varsity Lakes to Tugun upgrade.
This project is being constructed to cater for projected traffic growth, benefits for the national freight network, tourism operators and commuters by reducing congestion, providing more efficient traffic flows, and improving safety and travel time reliability.
Works in this 3.2 km section include:
Widening the M1 to a minimum of 3 lanes in both directions.
Upgrading the Tallebudgera Interchange (Exit 89).
Constructing 6 new bridges and widening 3 existing motorway bridges.
Constructing the northern section of a new 2-way western service road starting at Tallebudgera (Exit 89) and continuing through to Palm Beach (Exit 92).
A fauna underpass.
Active transport connections.
Smart motorway technologies.
Replacing the existing concrete road surface with stone mastic asphalt and incorporating innovative waste reduction methods for the existing road surface (rubblisation).
