Archerfield Airport FOD Walk

McIlwain’s Safety Advisor, Phil Robinson along with Graduate Engineer, Anna Costenaro and Leading Hand, Jacob Orford, were lucky to participate in Archerfield Airport Corporation’s (AAC) annual Industry FOD (Foreign Object Debris) Walk along the main runway.

Last week was Airport Safety Week, a safety campaign tailored to engage with employees and contractors working on an aerodrome. This year’s theme was ‘Lifting the Lid on Safety’.
Along with AAC’s Executive Director, Duncan Bird, Operations Manager Don Foy and other ACC personnel, McIlwain teamed up with local aviation business owners, community members and pilots that use the airfield to walk along the 1.7 km long runway with their buckets picking up any FOD along the way.

A small number of items were found and picked up such as bolts, nuts, and screws. FOD is a major hazard to safe aircraft operations as it can damage equipment and/or injure personnel.

Thank you Archerfield Airport for inviting McIlwain along. It’s opportunities like this that makes a career in construction with McIlwain so fulfilling.
